This site was created to introduce you to the Phlatprinter and soon the Phlatprinter MK II. The Phlatprinter (patent pending) is a special type of CNC machine invented by Mark and Trish Carew. After years of trial and error, we believe we have a robust machine that anyone can build.  Most of the materials can be purchased at your local hardware store at a cost effective price that allows anyone to become a kit builder of their own designs.

Phlatprinter Slide Show Flash

To find out more about the Phlatprinter go the About Us page or visit our forum at www.phlatforum.com.

"Our aim is to keep this as simple as it can get with easy to follow step by step instructions and friendly helpful tech support. You can build this printer without any knowlege of electronics and power tools. We will walk you through the entire process and make it as simple as possible. Join with friends or your club and make it a project everyone can be involved in."

The name Phlatprinter (meaning Flat and Phat) is just a fun way to say that the printer prints on Flat media to create 3D objects and Its Phat because its just cool! :)

The name Phlatboyz (meaning Flat and Phat) are remote control aircraft that are designed by Mark Carew to be short and fat from their scaled up versions.  Basically, cartoonish. The Phlatboyz came from an attempt to make an airplane that could do a power slide in the air, kinda like you could do on you bike when you were a kid.

They are a blast to fly IMHO :)

PhlatCode - Is a type of xyz coordinate language that lets your computer tell the machine where to cut, how fast ect..

-The Idea-

The idea behind the plans and PhlatCodez are, instead of designing plans and creating them as a PDF or DXF now you just publish the Phlatprinter code to the community and they just down-load and print your plane. As for kits you could sell just your Phlatcodez, Sell entire kits you cut and mail and or share it just like people do today with PDFs and DXF plans.

The choice is finally yours!

Phlatprinter MK II is almost here!!

We have been working hard to incorporate all of the feedback we have received from the original Phlatprinter as well as adding some design changes we thought would help improve upon the original Phlatprinter.

We are close to production!  We expect to be able to accept orders within the next few weeks.  We will be showcasing both the Phlatprinter and the Phlatprinter MK II at the Toledo show on April 1, 2, 3rd!

ATTF Interview on The Phlatprinter

Recently, we were interviewed by Diggs and Jamie at www.allthingsthatfly.com  They had us on their podcast episode #58.  It was awesome.  We hogged up almost their whole show talking about The Phlatprinter and loved every minute of it.  Check out their podcasts.  They have a lot of RC knowledge that we all could benefit from.

Phlatprinter Podcast

You guys won't believe this.  Frank and Brian over at http://www.rcflightcast.com/ talked to Michael Hancock about The Phlatprinter on their podcast.  We heard this and we were blown away.  We were hoping that people were grasping the concept of The Phlatprinter and in how we were trying to portray it.  Mike lays it out on the line so anyone can understand.  He really did a great job and we do appreciate all three of their ideas and comments on The Phlatprinter and it's progress.

If you have can, go check out their podcast, episode lucky # 13.  It's unbelievable, IMHO.

Thank you so much to all of you guys.

Happy Birthday

Ok last night I was able to create context menus and sub menus within Sketchup. I also was able to assign variables to input menus and recall them. So Its a slow but steady climb.

On another note: Today is July 2 'My birthday :)' so in the spirit we have decided to showcase the website to RCgroups.com and see what people think of the Phlatprinter and if this project is worth the pursuit?!  We are praying for the best.

"I just want to take a moment to thank each and every person from RCGroups.com you guys are the reason for my continual passion for flight and drive for better designs and ideas. This is a wonderful hobby and it is YOU who makes it great.

Thank you"

Mark

Scripting Flowchart Complete!

Ok we have finished the flow chart for our script idea, and how we would like it to work. What we are working on is the development of a ruby script (plug-in) for the free Sketchup 3d can program. This plug-in would allow you to create all your toolpaths and Phlatcode within the sketchup program. From that point all you would need is to download the free version of Mach3 control software. Set it up and start cutting.
